The Importance of Elevation Health's Free Monthly Master Classes

By Dr. Dan Yachter, D.C. | Elevation Health Chiropractic – Lake Mary, Florida

When it comes to your health, how much do you really know about what's happening inside your body?

Most people don't think about their spine until their back hurts. They may not pay attention to their posture until movement becomes uncomfortable. And they may not ask questions about nutrition, stress, sleep, or other health habits until a problem starts affecting their daily lives.

But what if we spent more time understanding our health before we were forced to pay attention to it?

That's one of the reasons we offer free monthly Master Classes at Elevation Health Chiropractic in Lake Mary, Florida.

Our goal is about more than providing chiropractic care. It's about helping people understand their bodies, learn about important health topics, ask better questions, and make informed decisions about their well-being.

As I explained in my article, What Does a Chiropractor Really Do?, chiropractic care involves more than simply adjusting the spine. It can include evaluating posture, movement, spinal and joint function, and the neuromusculoskeletal system.

Education is an important part of that bigger picture.

Because the more you understand about your health, the better equipped you are to participate in decisions about your care.

1. Health Education Helps You Make More Informed Decisions

One of the biggest challenges in healthcare is understanding the information we're given.

Medical terminology can be confusing. Research headlines can be misleading. And health advice on social media often makes it difficult to separate reliable information from unsupported claims.

This is where health education matters.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) explains that health literacy helps people find, understand, and use health information and services to make informed decisions. It is important not only when we're sick, but also when we're managing everyday health. Read the CDC's overview of health literacy.

A Master Class provides an opportunity to slow down, explore a topic in greater detail, and learn how the information may apply to everyday life.

Instead of simply hearing that something is important, you can learn why it matters, what questions to ask, and what practical steps may be worth discussing with your healthcare professional.

2. Understanding Your Health Goes Beyond Chiropractic Adjustments

At Elevation Health, we believe chiropractic care is about more than getting your back cracked.

As discussed in What Does a Chiropractor Really Do?, a chiropractic evaluation may consider posture, spinal and joint mobility, movement patterns, and the broader neuromusculoskeletal system.

But your health involves more than your spine.

Nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, and other lifestyle factors can also influence your overall well-being.

That's why our educational events explore a variety of health topics beyond chiropractic adjustments.

Our monthly Master Classes are designed to help attendees better understand subjects such as:

  • Spinal health and movement: Understanding posture, mobility, and physical function.

  • Stress and hormones: Learning about stress physiology and how hormones are evaluated.

  • Gut health: Exploring digestion, nutrition, and factors that influence gastrointestinal health.

  • Immune health: Understanding how the immune system works and what evidence supports healthy immune function.

  • Heart health: Learning about cardiovascular risk factors and healthy lifestyle habits.

  • Healthy aging: Exploring ways to support mobility, strength, and long-term function.

  • Cancer prevention: Understanding established risk factors, prevention strategies, and the importance of appropriate screening.

These subjects are interconnected, but each deserves careful discussion. Our goal is to provide useful education without suggesting that one treatment, supplement, or lifestyle change can prevent or cure every health problem.

3. Research Supports the Importance of Patient Education

Health education isn't just a nice extra. It is recognized as an important part of healthcare.

The World Health Organization's 2023 guideline for chronic primary low back pain includes structured education and advice among the interventions that may be offered to adults as part of care. The guideline also discusses exercise, certain physical therapies, psychological interventions, and other options. It emphasizes a person-centered, holistic approach rather than relying on a single intervention. Read the WHO guideline announcement.

This is particularly relevant to our philosophy at Elevation Health.

Understanding your body shouldn't begin and end with an appointment. Learning about movement, self-management, and healthy habits can help you participate more actively in your care.

A Master Class is one way to make that information more accessible.

An important distinction: Research on patient education does not prove that attending a particular Master Class will prevent disease or improve an individual's health outcomes. Rather, it supports the broader value of accessible, structured health education as part of informed healthcare and self-management.

4. Master Classes Encourage You to Take an Active Role in Your Health

Have you ever left a healthcare appointment and realized you still had questions?

Perhaps you wanted to understand a test result, learn more about a health condition, or clarify which lifestyle changes might be helpful.

Learning to ask questions is an important part of being an informed patient.

The CDC's research summary on patient engagement describes evidence linking greater patient activation—the knowledge, skills, and confidence to participate in healthcare—with better health outcomes. Learn more about patient engagement.

Our Master Classes are intended to encourage that kind of engagement.

They give attendees an opportunity to learn about a topic, reflect on their current habits, and identify questions they may want to discuss with a qualified healthcare professional.

The objective isn't to tell everyone to follow the same plan.

It's to help people become more informed about their options.

5. Prevention Starts With Understanding Risk

Many people seek information only after a symptom appears or a diagnosis is made.

But health education can also help us understand risk factors and the steps recommended to reduce them.

For example, a heart health class can explain the importance of blood pressure, cholesterol, physical activity, and other cardiovascular risk factors. A cancer prevention class can discuss established risk factors, evidence-based screening, and the difference between reducing risk and guaranteeing prevention.

Similarly, a class about healthy aging can explore physical activity, strength, mobility, balance, and habits that support everyday function.

These discussions can help people recognize when a conversation with their healthcare provider—or a recommended screening or medical evaluation—is appropriate.

Prevention is not about living in fear of disease. It's about understanding what you can influence and making informed choices.

No educational event can eliminate every health risk, but better information can help people approach those risks more thoughtfully.

6. Learning Together Can Make Health Information More Accessible

Health information can feel overwhelming when you're trying to research everything on your own.

A structured class offers a starting point: one topic, an organized discussion, and an opportunity to learn alongside other people who share an interest in their health.

Our free monthly Master Classes are designed to make health education more accessible to our community.

Whether the subject is gut health, immune function, heart health, hormones, cancer prevention, or healthy aging, the goal is to break down complicated subjects into information people can better understand and use when making healthcare decisions.

A class is not a replacement for an individual examination or medical advice. Your health history, symptoms, risk factors, and personal circumstances still matter.

But education can help you arrive at your next healthcare conversation with better questions and a clearer understanding of the topic.

7. Why We Make Our Master Classes Free

We believe access to health education should not feel out of reach.

That's why Elevation Health offers free monthly Master Classes.

These events are an opportunity to learn about important health topics, explore research, and become more engaged in your own well-being.

Our classes also reflect something important about our approach to chiropractic care: we want patients to understand more than what happens during an adjustment.

We want people to understand why movement matters, why an appropriate evaluation is important, why progress should be assessed, and why some concerns require another healthcare professional.

Education is part of helping people make informed decisions.

And that begins with making room for questions.

What Can You Expect at an Elevation Health Master Class?

Our monthly classes focus on different subjects throughout the year. Past and planned topics have included:

  • Thyroid, Stress and Hormone Health: Exploring relevant symptoms, health markers, and questions to discuss with a provider.

  • Cancer Prevention: Learning about established risk factors, evidence-based prevention strategies, and appropriate screening.

  • Slow Your Aging Process: Discussing healthy aging, movement, and lifestyle factors that support physical function.

  • My Achy Breaky Leaky Gut: Exploring digestive health, nutrition, and gastrointestinal concerns.

  • Titanium Immune System: Learning about immune function and evidence-based ways to support general health.

  • Healthy Heart: Understanding cardiovascular health and the importance of managing risk factors.

Topics and schedules vary, so check with Elevation Health for the latest Master Class details.

Our aim is to make each session an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and leave with a clearer understanding of the subject.

The Bigger Picture: Education Is Part of Better Healthcare

At Elevation Health, our approach can be summarized in six words:

Evaluate. Adjust. Correct. Rehabilitate. Measure. Educate.

Each has a role in our approach to appropriate chiropractic care.

Evaluation helps us understand a patient's condition. Treatment is selected based on the individual's needs. Progress can be reassessed when appropriate. Education helps patients better understand their health and participate in decisions about their care.

Our Master Classes extend that educational philosophy beyond the examination room.

They are not intended to replace chiropractic care, primary care, medical treatment, or recommended screening. They are an opportunity to build knowledge and encourage informed conversations about health.

After nearly three decades of practicing chiropractic, I continue to believe that learning never stops—not for healthcare professionals and certainly not for patients.

The more we understand, the better questions we can ask.

And the better questions we ask, the more informed our decisions can become.
